What Have I Learned From Mr. Brexit Himself

Updated: Nov 19, 2021

Nigel Farage is a former Leader of the UK Independence Party, and later the Brexit Party from 2019 to 2021. Obviously everyone knows him as this larger than life figure who started the Brexit movement and facilitated Great Britain leaving the EU. He got involved in politics because he wanted to change his part of the world, and has been ridiculed at times for his views. He told me though, that with patience, persistence and faith he was able see Brexit through.

We also discussed the state of the world as we see it now and there are some similarities. In times like these, people have a choice to make, whether to follow or lead. As a physician, scientist and a stubborn Mediterranean I found the answer rather quickly. It takes courage, stamina and a whole lot of prayer to change the world but as Margaret Meade said “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has.”

So what do we do as regular citizens of the world? We start at home, with our families and friends, then our communities, cities, counties, states…It is easy to get caught up in the magnitude of the challenge, but it is then that we need to find our center, our support system. We also need to believe and most importantly encourage each other, because we are only as successful as the people around us.

We pray, we live, we love, we laugh, we cry together but at the end of the day you should never sacrifice your individual spirit, because it takes only one person to have an idea that at the end could save us all. Although, with friends everything
