Truth Will Set You Free

November 19, 2021

“We must always take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented. Sometimes we must interfere. When human lives are endangered, when human dignity is in jeopardy, national borders and sensitivities become irrelevant. Wherever men or women are persecuted because of their race, religion, or political views, that place must—at that moment—become the center of the universe,” Elie Wiesel said in his Nobel Peace Prize acceptance speech on Dec. 10, 1986.

Life is a miracle; a journey of many victories, tragedies, wins and losses. History has shown us that at times it can be quite dark and heavy, and we may feel defeated and broken. But that same history has shown us that there are some amazing individuals that rise from the ashes to become these incredible leaders who give us hope and strength.

We find ourselves in dark times at this point in history, with many challenges ahead, and controversy. We also find that amongst us there are many who have answered the call of service to their fellow humans. In times like these, we need to be courageous, tell the truth even when some don’t want to hear it and stay steadfast in our faith. While there might be a sense of safety in silence, there is also complicity and cowardliness.

Psalm 23:4

“Even though I walk

through the darkest valley,

I will fear no evil,

for you are with me;

your rod and your staff,

they comfort me.“

Be strong and courageous because the truth is our guiding light.
