One of my favorite quotes is “This life is worth living, we can say, since it is what we make it” by William James and I can honestly say that I have tried to live my life by those ideals.
There are some ideals in life that we should never take for granted, such as our faith, family, sanctity of life and freedom. As a physician, I also found that the relationship between the patients and their doctor is a sacred partnership in which both parties are equally as important. There comes a time in our lives when we question the things that are happening but if we stay true to our North, we will always find the way through the confusion.
It is important though, that each and every one of us finds our passion, our calling, our hill. And it is as equally important that we are not bystanders in our own lives. As Malcolm Wallace in the movie Braveheart said “Your heart is free. Have the courage to follow it.”
Our hearts and our minds our free, our bodies may falter but the spirit of humanity lives in us and our ancestors. We honor the men and women from our past, by being kind human beings who live the life of humble servant leaders in their own communities and make a difference each and every day. Sometimes it is a smile, sometimes it’s a prayer, sometimes it’s a monetary gesture and sometimes is just a touch. Whichever way you choose to contribute in this world of ours that has lost its compass, be good, do good, love others and be kind to yourself. We had a great example in love that transcends the universe. Let’s follow it.
